Couple mad at each other

You can resolve conflict with just FIVE words!

What Is This Really About?

Yes, we know that just saying these five words won’t magically resolve your conflict. BUT we have discovered that this is a five-sentence phrase that can help you recognize what is truly at the heart of your disagreement.

Whether said out loud or something you silently contemplate, this phrase can help uncover what the issue really is and get you one step closer to solving it.

That argument you just had about Post-it notes really isn’t about Post-it notes.

WHAT THEY SAID:

Why are you using SO many Post-It Notes?

WHAT IS THIS REALLY ABOUT:

I’m worried about the business finances and I feel that you don’t understand my concern. We’re not on the same page.

The initial statement might just feel like nagging…until you get to the REAL issue.

The partner asking about Post-it notes really wants:

  • Acknowledgment that running a small business is hard and sometimes scary

  • To feel seen, heard and understood

  • To know that you are a team and that both of you understand what is at stake

  • To address the actual issue of financial stability

Once the real reason - financial security - is discovered, steps can be taken to address the issue and show support for each other. A real conversation can take place.
