Common Scares Small Business Owners Face
As of the writing of this blog, it is Spooky Season. So we thought we’d address some of the scary things that come with owning a small business.
Below are some common scary movie tropes with a business-owner twist!
1: Wrong Turn
You know the scene. The car full of care-free teens takes a wrong turn and, well, deadly hi-jinks ensue.
As a small business owner you are going to make mistakes. You’re going to take that proverbial wrong turn. Such as:
Hiring the wrong person
Targeting the wrong client/customer
Using the wrong marketing strategy
That’s OK. Learn from these mistakes. The lessons you learn from finding out “what not to do” are vital to your entrepreneurial growth.
But, whatever you do, don’t go to that dodgy gas station for directions!
2: Unstoppable Monster
Some time during your business ownership you will likely face a challenge that feels like an unstoppable monster. Too big. Too scary.
Or so you think.
But the key to fighting these “monsters” is to break that huge challenge into much smaller, and more achievable, tasks.
It will feel a lot less overwhelming and scary.
Is your “monster” really scary? Or just misunderstood?
3: Lost in the Woods
This is different from the wrong turn scenario in that you aren’t making any turns - wrong or otherwise. You are stuck or “lost” trying to figure out a problem or tackle a situation. You feel out of your depth.
The best way out of the woods is with a guide.
Perhaps you need some continuing education or training. Maybe a mentor can help you find your way. The internet if full of information (or bread crumbs) that can lead you.
But, remember, do not go near that candy house. It’s a trap.
As a business owner you are full of main character energy. It’s time to take control of your story.
