SO MANY QUESTIONS
As a couple in business together we get A LOT of questions.
It’s likely you do too as a small business owner working with your spouse.
It’s natural for people to be interested, curious or even skeptical of the way we, couplepreneurs, work better together.
We thought we’d discuss a few of the more common questions we get and how we respond.
Common Questions We Get
Don’t You Get Tired of Being Around Each SO Much?
We actually aren’t together the whole time. We each have our own role to play and focus on those areas.
We LOVE brainstorming together so when we are together we’re usually doing something work-wise that we love.
How Do You Create a Clear Separation Between Work and Personal Time?
Short answer: we don’t.
We strive for a blend not strict separation to achieve that elusive thing called balance.
Think of a smoothie.
You COULD eat/drink all of the ingredients at different times and at equal amounts throughout the day and achieve a sort of balance - but that’s not as good.
With a smoothie you can blend everything together for something more delicious.
And to take that analogy further…sometimes you might add more blueberries (work project) while other times it’s all about the strawberries (personal time).
Is Handling Conflict More Difficult Since You Work Together?
Sometimes.
Because we can’t leave to go to the office and avoid each other while we’re mad about a personal issue, we have found that we HAVE to communicate and work it out. The same goes for a work issue.
Luckily, we don’t have employees. It can be a bit more difficult as you don’t want to look unprofessional.
Curious about how to plan and host a company retreat?
We talked with event expert Regina Schober to learn more.
The smaller the business, the more important the retreat is. Smaller businesses often have employees who wear multiple hats. They have bigger personal ties to their work, and it takes up a lot of time and energy. A retreat is a great way to hit the reset button. If employees are feeling burned out, a retreat can help them unwind and bond with their coworkers. And if they're feeling lost or unheard in their work, a retreat can offer those opportunities to be seen and heard and to grow and learn together.
