3 Signs You Work Well Together
You and your couplepreneur partner want to cultivate three core traits.
All three have something in common: teamwork.
Complementary Skills
People who have different but complementary skills can make great business partners.
You don’t have to do completely different things – in some cases you may have some of the same skills or they overlap; but do each of you add your own mojo to the mix or take on those tasks best suited to your own strengths?
This can also work when your personalities complement each other.
Do you provide a counterpoint to your spouse? For example, Jodie is more impulsive while I’m more of a processor. We can see different sides to an issue and bring our own perspectives—making for a more balanced approach to decisions and tasks.
2. Trust
It’s not enough to have the right skill match-up. You’ve got to let the other person do their job. Say that one of you is a designer and one of you is a contractor. You’ve combined forces to help people renovate their homes. But by constantly micromanaging your partner, you’re doubling the work and limiting your ability to run your business smoothly.
Trust doesn’t always come easily in the workplace…but as a couple, we hope that it’s baked into your relationship and makes it easier.
3. Support
I think this is really the most important one.
Are you supporting your spouse emotionally? Do you respect the work they are doing? Are you showing your appreciation on a regular basis?
When your spouse is struggling, are you there with encouragement or doing some of the heavy lifting? On any team—ESPECIALLY a team of couplepreneurs—the “I’ve got your back” gestures make a huge difference.
Whether your skills match or balance each other, the name of the game in couplepreneurship is teamwork.
