Dealing with Tough Times

Here’s our list of ten ways you can cope with tough times:

1.    EVERYTHING WILL SHIFT—nothing lasts forever, and things often change while we’re distracted and not expecting it. Overwhelming today may look manageable tomorrow.

2.    STRUGGLE IS A GREAT TEACHER—going through tough times shuffles priorities and can make you stronger.

3.    FEEL YOUR JOY AND YOUR HARDSHIP—you don’t have to wait until tough times are over to notice what brings you joy.

4.    IF YOU’VE LIVED AT ALL, YOU’VE BEEN HERE—think about previous tough times and how you made it through them.

5.    GO EASY ON YOURSELF—it’s essential to give yourself grace the same as you would a good friend or loved one. Self-doubt and criticism make tough times tougher.

6.    LOOK PAST NEGATIVITY FROM OUTSIDE—boundaries are important, especially now. If people are angry or bitter during tough times, protect yourself.

7.    TOUGH TIMES CAN BE NEW BEGINNINGS—dealing with setbacks can put blinders on you, you see nothing but the storm. This can make way for a new direction and a better knowledge of who you are.

8.    GRATITUDE—not talking about being blind to tough times. You can find solace in the people and beauty in your life to help you keep going.

9.    HAVING IT ALL UNDER CONTROL IS A MYTH—when you try to “have things figured out”, you’re robbing yourself of the opportunities that tough times bring. Let yourself move slowly enough to learn the lessons of this season.

10.  REST—finding time away from your situation and getting rest will help you recover. Give yourself permission to breathe.
